LabelVision 20/20 Standard barely missed the top three; it is a highly compatible and adaptable product. LabelVision includes a capable designer that includes nearly every design tool that we were looking for and for after purchase support they offer six months of free support and fee-based seminars.
This barcode software includes sophisticated features like Unicode compatibility, serialization, advanced field options, logging, VBScript programming and custom menus.
Yet we would have like to have seen a few more fonts offered and a few more interface language choices. However, if LabelVision offers the kind of codes you need, than they are worth contacting for more information.
LabelVision provides linear and 2D codes, including Code 39 (with full ASCII), Straight 2 of 5, Interleaved 2 of 5, Code 128 (A, B, C, UCC/EAN and Auto), UPC-A & EAN-13 (both with Add-2 and Add-5), UPC-E, EAN-8, Codabar, Data Matrix and PDF-417. When we spoke with a LabelVision representative, he said the program can support RFID, but we are not sure about the process to make that happen. If you require RFID support you should contact LabelVision to see if they can fulfill this need for your company in a way that that works for you.
This software includes excellent database and printer support. It can print to popular printers, such as numerous Zebra, DATAMAX, EasyCoder and Sato thermal printers as well as Windows-based printers.
In terms of databases, LabelVision can link to and print utilizing ODBC or not and comes with separate database tools. The barcode software also supports Structured Query Language, Microsoft Access, dBase, Paradox and Text files. This software also provides a few unique tools like write back to database ability and automatic printing based on a database table, text file or ODBC connection change or prompt.
As mentioned above, we would like to see more interface languages supported. This software can take information from non-English keyboards and custom menus and commands can be created, but the actual interface only comes in English.
The LabelVision 20/20 software includes just about any design tool you could need. With this program you can easily set label parameters, add images, manipulate text, add shapes and lines and create both objects and text fields. You can also group, rotate and align objects. The only thing it does not have that we were looking for was ellipses or circles, but this is a minor issue.
Distinctive to this product, is their auto-incrementing feature, which is serialization that is not only label-based but also product-based so products can have unique numbers that can be individually tracked.
In terms of compliance tools, it comes with some samples (compliance labels) and a few symbols, but not as many as we would have liked to see. Though you can easily create label layouts and save them for future use.
The design tool is fairly easy to use and rather intuitive. You can easily pull objects from your system, label fields, group objects, add barcodes and so on. Though, it is not as quite as easy to use as BarTender and NiceLabel, but once you figure the software out, most tools a pretty easy to use.
LabelVision offers six months of free support to licensed users. Support is by telephone or email and the program includes embedded support and tutorials. They also offer fee-based training sessions in Massachusetts. LabelVision generally does not offer training at the client’s site, but it can be arranged if necessary.
LabelVision, if used to it’s maximum potential, is a powerful barcoding tool. With a little know-how it can be tailored to fit your company’s processes and on the user end it is easy to use, so labels can be designed with little experience.
